This is an ongoing program, during the academic year for second through fifth grade girls. It is done in cooperation with the Charles Houston Recreation Center in Alexandria, Virginia. Members provide mentoring sessions focused on building self-esteem, increasing knowledge on career choices and the necessary education required to pursue those choices, financial literacy, and increased awareness of the history of women particularly local African-American women in the northern Virginia area.
In partnership with St. John’s Baptist Church of Arlington, Virginia, members tutor students from the surrounding community in various subjects from October through June.
For more than 60 years, the IFNV and Zeta Chi Omega chapter (www.aka-zco.org) have sponsored an Annual Cotillion. The Cotillion program includes more than five months of cultural and educational activities designed to enrich the lives of the Debutantes, and their Escorts. Program activities include cultural events, workshops and seminars on budgeting, etiquette, interviewing skills, career choices, college life, and health/fitness awareness. Proceeds from the event fund educational stipends for the Debutantes.
